Convert EDI to CSV online. Upload an X12 or EDIFACT file and download clean CSV files: purchase orders, invoices and ship notices as header and line item tables, and every segment of the file in a Segments table. Open them in any spreadsheet app or load them into your own system.
A single CSV cannot hold several tables, so the result is a .zip with one CSV file per table, numbered in a fixed order:
Only the tables for document types that are in your file are included. Each line item carries its document number, so header and lines always join up.
The line items of this purchase order:
ST*850*0001~BEG*00*SA*PO-55501**20261019~PO1*1*24*EA*6.25**BP*BUY-1001*UP*000000000017~PID*F****COTTON T-SHIRT BLACK~PO1*2*12*CA*48.5**BP*BUY-1002*UP*000000000024~PID*F****COTTON T-SHIRT WHITE~
come out in 03 PO Line Items.csv like this (the full file also carries the PO date and control number):
PO Number,Line No,Quantity,Unit,Unit Price,Buyer's Part No,UPC,DescriptionPO-55501,1,24,EA,6.25,BUY-1001,000000000017,COTTON T-SHIRT BLACKPO-55501,2,12,CA,48.5,BUY-1002,000000000024,COTTON T-SHIRT WHITE
The CSV files are saved in UTF-8, so spreadsheet apps show accented names correctly.
Put the files into a single .zip (or .tar.gz) and upload it: each file inside is converted separately. Converting an archive of multiple files needs a free account, so sign up and confirm your email first.
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is how companies exchange business documents such as purchase orders, invoices and ship notices directly between their systems. An EDI file is plain text made of segments, short records such as BEG, PO1 or N1, each split into elements by a separator such as * or +. The two main standards are ANSI X12, used mostly in North America, and UN/EDIFACT, used internationally.
Upload the EDI file to our EDI to CSV Converter, click 'Run Conversion' and download the result: a .zip with one CSV file per table, ready to open in any spreadsheet app or load into your own system.
X12 850 purchase orders, 810 invoices and 856 ship notices (ASN), and EDIFACT ORDERS and INVOIC messages get a header table (one row per document) and a line item table, with readable column names such as PO Number, Ship To Name, Quantity, Unit Price and Buyer's Part No. Every other document, for example an 855, 997, 214 or 846, or an EDIFACT DESADV, is listed on the Segments table: one row per segment, with the segment name and each element in its own column.
An EDI file holds several kinds of data, and a single CSV cannot hold them all, so the result is a .zip with one CSV file per table: a Summary, a header table and a line item table for each tailored document type in the file, and a Segments table with every segment. If you would rather have one workbook with a tab per table, use our EDI to Excel Converter instead.
Common X12 versions such as 004010 and 005010, and EDIFACT directories such as D96A, with or without the UNA service string. The separators are read from each file's own header, so files that use * or |, ~ or line breaks, or other separators all convert, including files that hold several interchanges.
Yes. Put the files in a single .zip (or .tar.gz) and upload it: each file inside is converted separately. Converting an archive needs a free account, so sign up and confirm your email first. A single file that holds several interchanges or documents converts into one result.
The counts and control numbers in the trailer segments (SE, GE and IEA, or UNT and UNZ) are checked, and any mismatch is listed in the Notes on the Summary. It does not stop the conversion. A file that is cut off still converts up to the point where it ends, and you are told that it looks incomplete.
Yes. All files uploaded to our service are encrypted and deleted automatically within 24 hours. Your documents are never shared.
