Automated Generation of PDF Invoices based on the HTML template
How we, at Conversion Tools, automated the process of Invoices generation using our Online HTML to PDF Converter.Problem
On our Conversion Tools website users are purchasing the Conversion Plan (see Pricing page).
We need to generate and send an invoice related to this purchase.
Solution: Conversion Automation
The solution consists of several stages:
- Creating an invoice for the client’s purchase based on an HTML template
- Automated generation of the invoice in PDF format
- Emailing an invoice to the client
Creating an invoice for the client’s purchase based on an HTML template
First of all, we prepared an Invoice template in HTML format, because it is easy to edit HTML, adjust styling, and at the same moment to see the result of the changes in the Browser.
Once the client making a new purchase via the website, our server software takes a pre-defined HTML template of the future invoice and substitutes the order-related values, like Name, Invoice date/number in the HTML file.
As a result, we generate an HTML file with the invoice information per specific client.
Automated generation of the invoice in PDF format
This step contains the automated process - our server software sending the previously generated (on the previous stage) HTML invoice to the Converter using Conversion Tools API.
Once the HTML Invoice file is uploaded, we use our Online HTML to PDF converter to convert the HTML file into PDF format.
The PDF file will keep all the styles defined in HTML (with CSS) and would look like an exact copy of the web page as it would be displayed in the browser.
Once the conversion from HTML to PDF is finished - we download the result PDF file.
Emailing an invoice to the client
Emailing the result file to the client is a straightforward process - the PDF file is sent as an attachment to the client’s email id.
