# Conversion Tools > Conversion Tools converts files between formats, in the browser and over a REST API. 222 converters cover documents, spreadsheets, data formats, images, audio, video, subtitles, e-books, OCR and AI-assisted extraction, 14 of them AI-powered. Conversion is asynchronous: create a task, poll it until it finishes, then download the result. API base URL: `https://api.conversiontools.io/v1` Authentication: send `Authorization: Bearer ` on every request. The token is on your profile page at https://conversiontools.io/profile If you are generating an integration, read the full reference before writing any code. The rule that breaks most generated clients: `POST /tasks` never returns a file.
